DOG ATTACK

See a news release on Tuesday’s dangerous dog attack online. The dogs mauled a woman to the area near Genghis Grill on Hwy. 6 and 50.

According to Mesa County Animal Services, “officers were unable to verify current rabies vaccinations and the dogs were transported to Mesa County Animal Services. They remain there in quarantine. An investigation is underway for violations of Dangerous Dog and other animal law violations.”

1. Learn about a Colorado veteran who will celebrate Memorial Day on a Denali climb. Vail Daily reporter Melanie Wong authored the article.

“Every single one of us has lost someone incredibly important to us, and we’ll all be thinking of that when we climb,” said [Margaux] Mange, 29. “We’ve seen Memorial Day turn into this day of store sales, and we want to bring it back to the way it was and honor the people who have given their lives.”

2. Learn about creating fresh spring meals with ramps, otherwise known as wild leeks.

According to The Kitchen Diva: “Because of their short season, ramps are lesser known than other members of the allium family, which includes onions, leeks and garlic. They grow wild, mainly in the eastern United States. Ramps also can be found on the side of mountains, in forests and along creek bottoms all the way to Missouri and up into Canada.”

3. Learn about treatment options for migraine headaches.

“Even though migraine headaches affect so many people, we still don’t quite know exactly what causes them,” reported Rosanna Turner. “Dr. Marius Birlea, assistant professor of neurology at the University of Colorado Denver, said that in the past researchers believed that migraines were a disorder of the blood vessels inside the brain. Now, Birlea said scientists think that either something occurs on the surface of the brain, then spreads and leads to sterile inflammation (inflammation not caused by infection), or the cause begins in the deep structure of the brain, which spreads to the surface and involves the blood vessels.”

4. Learn about how Denver is cracking down on marijuana-grow warehouses.

According to Katie Kuntz of Rocky Mountain PBS I-News: “The Denver Fire Department issued 58 permits for warehouses to grow marijuana in non-licensed facilities last year — marijuana not to be sold in dispensaries. This marijuana was to be grown primarily by caregivers for consumption by medical users, or for the grower’s personal use.”

5 Learn about an oil and gas lease exchange proposed for the Thompson Divide region of Colorado.

“The proposal urges Colorado’s two U.S. senators, Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner, and 3rd District Congressman Scott Tipton, to carry legislation supporting a lease exchange, which could resolve the issues and leave the already largely undeveloped 221,000-acre Thompson Divide area untouched,” reported John Stroud of Glenwood Springs Post Independent.
