GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — KAFM 88.1 is kicking off 2012 with its first ever Art & Other Treasures Live Auction Friday, Feb. 3, at the DoubleTree Hotel.
The evening will include a live auction of fine art and other treasures, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar all to benefit KAFM, the valleys' only independent, commercial-free, community radio station.
Tickets are $20 per person or $35 per couple and include access to “Preview Night” 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.
The live auction features an amazing assortment of fine art and collectibles, jewelry, textiles, entertainment packages, travel and outdoor gear, all at great savings. Starting bids range from $100 for affordable art and fun packages to $4,000 for fine art and valued collectibles.
There will be something for everyone and art lovers and deal seekers alike can bid for a chance to take home original art from local favorites like Sara Alyn Oakley, John Anglim and Lyle Nichols, or snag a deal on a sweet Electra Townie Bike from Brown Cycles.
Those looking for a mountain adventure can bid to win a Powderhorn Ski package that includes head-to-toe Mountain Khaki gear, his-and-her Loki jackets, Slopeside accommodations, and gift cards to Summit Canyon Mountaineering.
Music lovers will want to check out the Knilling Bucharest Violin and other instruments, or bid on the KAFM Music Lovers Package including a season pass to Radio Room concerts and guitar lessons from John Schultz.
Longtime valley art collector Mike Hurshman will conduct the live auction and has included both national and regional artists as well as valley favorites including Bill Anton, Gordon Brown, Stephen Datz, George Callison, Len Chmiel, Gale Gerson, Charles Hardy, Ned Jacob, John Lintott, Robert Lougheed, Daniel Sprick, Tom Stubbs, Hollis Williford, Dan Young and many others. The auction includes more than 100 lots of art, collectibles and entertainment.
Nationally renowned artist Buffalo Kaplinski designed the signature art featured on the poster and there will be signed prints for sale as well as the original piece auctioned live.
A major sponsor of the event is U.S. Bank.
“The event personifies our ideal in philanthropy -- a regional event that benefits a broad range of people, where our sponsorship helps to bring together donations of time and energy from the volunteers and the vision of Colorado artists while supporting a great community organization,” said Randall Cupp of U.S. Bank.
Thanks also goes to sponsors: Hanson International, Enstrom Candies, Hurshman Safety Consultants and Subaru.
