GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Demo Nite 2011 at The Art Center features more than 20 artists who will be working with various media, including clay, fiber, music, printmaking, electronics, painting, and figure drawing.
Creative demonstrations will also include robot-making by Karl Castleton, and fly-tying by Western Slope Anglers.
Ann Dettmer will paint alongside her current exhibit “Challenge and Gratitude: Recent works by Ann Dettmer.”
Artists Michael Goe, Shari Daly Miller, Roger McCoy and Martha McCoy will do figure drawing while Cassidee Shull models in a bikini.
Rachel Egelston will show how she does Itajime Shibori, a combination of tie-dye and origami.
Artist-in-resident Terry Shepherd will demonstrate raku firing in the ceramics studio.
Sculptor Sarah Dargan will work in Studio Colorado where the Junction Clay Arts Guild currently has its “Firestorm” exhibit.
Other continuing exhibits include the Brush and Palette Club 64th annual Members' Art Exhibit, and the John Moore collection of botanical prints, watercolors and drawings dating back to the 1800s.
“Painting instigators” Shanachie Caroll and Adam Seaman will try and entice visitors to try their own hand at creativity on a giant stretched canvas in the “community paint area.”
For all levels and ages, the community paint area was an extremely popular site for kids at last years' Demo Nite, Art Center curator Camille Silverman said.
Demo Nite artists will be introduced at 6:30 p.m., before heading off to their work stations from 7-9 p.m.

INTRODUCING MARY HERTERT
A new artist this year to Demo Nite — Mary Hertert of Color Creek Fiber Art will demonstrate painting on white silk fabric stretched out on a frame.Hertert paints silk scarves, wall hangings, and yardage for sewing garments. Hertert also dyes fabrics for dance theater studios, and wedding ensembles. Hertert moved to Grand Junction in April from Alaska. She has work currently showing at the Blue Pig Gallery in Palisade.
Hertert will have a grand opening of her working studio 4-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. At the opening Hertert will serve refreshments and offer small projects for people to work on. She invites people to bring their musical instruments to play.
“It's a happening,” she said.
Hertert's working studio is located within Fabric Art Studio, 2297 Tall Grass Road, off of 23 Road and Highway 6 and 50.
