Honor Flight vets return from D.C. to heroes' welcome

Sens. Mark Udall and Michael Bennet met up with local WWII Honor Flight veterans at the WWII Memorial Thursday in D.C. “It was great to meet with so many Colorado veterans who bravely served during World War II, and it is difficult to put into words what they have done for our country,” said Bennet. “I am glad these veterans were able to visit the World War II Memorial, which honors them for their dedication and sacrifice at a critical moment in our country's history. They are truly a part of The Greatest Generation. We must continue to honor them and all our veterans for their sacrifice and work to ensure they receive the support and benefits they deserve.”

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Free Press Staff Writer Sharon Sullivan was invited to participate in the fourth Western Slope Honor Flight which departed Grand Junction Regional Airport Wednesday for Washington, D.C.

The whirlwind tour took approximately 100 western Colorado World War II veterans and their guardians to see the WWII Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, Iwo Jima, Vietnam, and Korean War memorials and more.

Participants returned to a welcome-home celebration Thursday evening at the airport.
