The annual fine art auction is the biggest fundraising event of The Art Center's year. The 13th annual US Bank Fine Art Auction promises to be one of the best.
The Art Center has worked hard to bring together an outstanding collection of 99 pieces of art for every taste and price range.
This year's featured artist will be Gary O'Gara, and he has selected three fine pieces of his work that are sure to bring great attention.
O'Gara was born and raised on the Southern California coast. His passion for art led him to travel Europe studying the old masters.
Throughout the 1970s, O'Gara displayed his works in several shows, including the prestigious Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts and the All California Show. From 1980 to the early 1990s, his employment as designer/illustrator in the commercial art and architectural fields enabled him to work in many mediums — watercolor, gouache and oils as well as three dimensional structures.
His move to western Colorado in the early '90s inspired him to turn his attention solely to oil painting and, primarily, landscapes. He has been honored to have his work displayed in several prominent galleries and shows throughout the West and Southwest, including the renowned National Parks show.
A trip along the coast of Oregon, with its turbulence and undeveloped, natural beauty motivated O'Gara to move to Florence, Ore., in 2009 and paint seascapes.
O'Gara has flown in from Oregon to join the audience for The Art Center event.
Other outstanding artists will be Buffalo Kaplinski (acrylic), Jac Kephart (mixed media), Dianna Fritzler (mixed media), Sara Oakley (mixed media), George Callison (oil), Michael Wisner (clay), Jared Davis (glass), Julie Glassman (fine art jewelry), and John Sasso (fine art furniture).
One of the highlights of the evening will be the sale of “Sliced Apples” by Daniel Sprick. Sprick is presently in the permanent collections of the Denver Art Museum and the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., among many other museums.
He is an alumnus of Mesa State College and also in The Art Center's permanent collection. He has very generously donated “Sliced Applies” to The Art Center for this fundraiser. This will be an excellent opportunity for the serious collector to buy an outstanding work by this internationally famous artist.
The fun starts at 5 p.m. when the doors open to a wine and hors d'oeuvres reception, silent auction, and preview of live auction works. Join a festive blend of art, artists, and other buyers as you move through the galleries. The live auction kicks off at 7 p.m. sharp.
This is the most important yearly fundraiser for The Art Center. Proceeds from the evening support The Art Center's art education and exhibition programming.
Tickets are $20 at the door or are available by calling 243-7337, ext. 2. For more information, visit www.gjartcenter.org.
