GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Beyond Boundaries Dance Collective's annual “Winter Dance” concert takes place Friday and Saturday at the Moss Performing Arts Center's intimate Experimental Theatre venue.
The collection of new and contemporary dances will include two choreographed pieces by Beyond Boundaries member Connie Monroe. One is a duet about two sisters; the other dance is a piece with the Colorado National Monument as the theme — choreography that Monroe has been working on specifically for the monument's centennial celebration this summer, Laura Bradley of Beyond Boundaries said.
Julie Sinnott will perform in a “fun” tap trio piece she choreographed.
Bradley and MSC Assistant Professor of Dance Matt Lindstrom choreographed a duet they will also perform together.
Ann Sanders' choreographed time-travel piece, with costumes that take you back to the 1700s, will close the show, Bradley said.
New choreographers have joined Beyond Boundaries — Natasha Krasnow's “upbeat, jazzy piece,” will open the show, Sarah King's new choreographed dance has a modern, “African feeling” to it, and Rachel Weickert's piece is “lyrical,” Bradley said.
Beyond Boundaries Dance Collective includes dancers from the community, as well as Mesa State College students and faculty.
The dance collective formed in 2005 from a group of dancers from the community who wanted to share their passion for dance with a focus on contemporary modern dance. The name Beyond Boundaries refers to members' intention to continue dancing throughout their lifetimes.
The group performs biannual concerts each February and July with proceeds going to scholarships for students in the MSC dance program.
