A new, independent bookstore is opening Saturday at 350 Main St.
Margie Wilson and Frank Cooley also own Twice Upon a Time, a new and used bookstore at 2885 North Ave., across the street from Zen Garden restaurant.
Grand Valley Books will carry a mix of fiction and nonfiction, both new and used.
“We'll emphasize regional history, hiking and nature guides, wildlife, western Americana and Native American,” Wilson said.
Grand Valley Books will carry children's books and Spanish-language books by contemporary authors.
“We get a lot of requests at Twice Upon a Time (for Spanish-language materials),” Wilson said.
Wilson and Cooley also sell books online, search for rare and out-of-print books, special orders books not found in other places, and ship directly to out-of-town customers.
They appraise books as well.
Grand Valley Books will host a number of events including author readings and signings, plus classes such as book binding.
Janet Popish teaches a quilting and embroidery class at the North Avenue store and has agreed to teach a class at Grand Valley Books as well.
“She's brilliant,” Wilson said.
Later this summer the store will host Wyoming poet Rick Kempa, and Marcia Hensley, author of “Staking Her Claim: Women Homesteading the West.”
The new business created two new full-time jobs, and one part-time job.
Neither the economy or continuing construction along Main Street worry Wilson.
“Bill Gates started Microsoft during a recession — I'm inspired by that,” Wilson said.
Grand Valley Books will be open seven days a week, plus some evenings.
