The annual CINCO DE MAYO celebration will be held in the Rockslide parking lot and in the 400 block of Colorado Avenue Saturday, May 1. Make plans to take part in this traditional event.
CREATIVE AVENUES will hold open auditions for the summer production, “Disney's Cinderella Kids,” grades K-12, on Saturday, May 15, 10-11:30 a.m. at their studio, 128 S. Fifth St. Don't miss out!
IL BISTRO will begin serving lunch again on Monday, May 3, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Lunch will be available Monday-Friday through the summer. They've got a great patio and it's a great spot to “people watch” while lunching or dining in this beautiful western Colorado weather!
Longtime downtown business, FORMAL AFFAIRS moved to North Avenue and changed their name to DISCOUNT TUXEDOS AND FORMAL AFFAIRS. Owner Janet Lally and husband Don feel the move has been good for their business: “Downtown has become such a wonderful place for tourists and specialty shops, our business is more of a destination store so this works out well for us.” Their new location is at 1059 North Ave., directly across from the Mesa State. Janet and Ron want to thank Chris Brown of Brown Cycles, who purchased their former building at 555 Main St., for placing a sign in his window to let people know where they have moved.
Speaking of patio dining…LE ROUGE will be remodeling its patio as part of the Main Street “Uplift” and they have a new “under $20” menu, $6 martinis and wine. They will also begin serving lunch soon. This patio is the place to be seen by all those “people watchers.”
BIN 707 on Horizon Drive is making plans to move downtown. We've been trying to get the scoop but can only get a little hearsay. We'll keep you posted.

The 2010 DOWNTOWN GRAND JUNCTION ART & JAZZ FESTIVAL has added some inspiring and informative workshops this year including a Master Voice Class with Hazel Miller, a Lipbone Redding Children's Workshop that will help your child's vocal performance, an All About Jazz Workshop with the Aakash Mittal Quartet for people 14 years and up and ‘Zaro-Evolution of Jazz Through Multi-Media, an all ages workshop at Boomers. THE GALLERIA photography studio, 428 Main St. (in the Free Press' first digs), is holding Girls Night Friday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. Many girlie things to taste, demo and do — from teeth whitening, make-up, and more. Several local business catering to the ladies will be on hand.
Construction update: In case you haven't figured it out yourself, the intersection at Fourth and Main is closed and will remain that way until May 9. Constructors are working feverishly to get it open in time for the Art and Jazz Festival.
