Hot embers from a barbecue grill were the apparent cause of house fire in the 1500 block of 14 1/2 Road in Fruita, authorities said Tuesday.
The Lower Valley Fire District said it received a report about the fire around 10:52 p.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived at the location they found the homeowner trying to extinguish the fire, which was burning the siding of the garage.
Strong winds apparently fanned the blaze by blowing the embers into the siding. No injuries were reported.
