Paul Patrick Sulley passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center, just short of his 92nd birthday.
Paul was born in Grand Junction, CO on March 17, 1918. He and his family lived in the Crawford Addition area, now known as Riverside. At a young age his family moved to Sego, UT, where he worked in the coal mine. He always liked to help his mother bake bread and help take care of the family, which numbered 11.
After a tour in the Army during World War II, Paul moved back to Grand Junction where he met and married his wife, Geneva Sacco on April 25, 1949. Paul and Gene had a son, Louis. At the age of four, Louis died during surgery. Always wanting more children, they adopted a boy and girl from Italy. Paul went to work for Grand Avenue Dry Cleaners. After leaving his job there, he went to work for Public Service Company as a serviceman. He retired in 1983. Following his retirement, he continued to work around town taking care of many people's furnaces and doing odd jobs — anything to keep him busy. He was always cleaning his yard and encouraged others to do the same. Paul took great pride in his home and neighborhood. At 80 years of age, he single-handedly tore down a house on a lot next to his home!
His wife, Gene, passed away October 5, 1988.
Paul is survived by his son, Lenny and his wife, Michelle; daughter, Claudia and her fiancé, Bryan Massey all of Grand Junction; three grandchildren, Joshua Easley and Joel Easley of Arizona; and Nikolas Sulley of Grand Junction; a sister and brother-in-law, Charles and Louise Reid of Grand Junction; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation took place Tuesday, March 9, 2010 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A rosary was recited at 5:30. The funeral was held March 10 also at the mortuary; burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2232 N. 7th St, #B1, Grand Junction, CO 81501 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090 B N. 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dave Terry and all of his caregivers at Aspen Ridge, Community Hospital and Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, for the kindness and compassion shown to Paul throughout his last few years and hours of life.
