The Palisade International Honeybee Festival organizing committee is looking for vendors to sell their goods or to demonstrate their services at the second annual Honeybee Festival on Saturday, April 17. Booth registration fee is $35.
The Festival committee hopes to feature bee-themed products ranging from honey and mead to soft goods and household items, along with informational booths and hands-on activities for children.
“We would welcome a variety of honeybee related products,” says Carol Zadrozny, committee member and unofficial “Queen Bee.” A former elementary school teacher, Zadrozny also hopes to recruit some vendors who can bring their skills to entertaining projects for kids.
Although the goal is to educate, the group feels that having a little fun is a good way to embrace a fairly serious topic. The Festival was founded last year by a group of local business owners who wanted to rally the community to celebrate its agricultural heritage and to draw attention to the documented crisis that exists worldwide with honeybee population decline. The festival is sponsored by the PIHF Committee in conjunction with the Palisade Downtown Association and the Chamber of Commerce.
The Blue Pig Gallery will kick off the Festival on Friday, April 16, with an Opening Reception from 5 to 8 pm. Expert speakers will be presenting information and the gallery will be showing both Batik and wax Encaustic art, both of which use beeswax in their techniques. Wine and refreshments will be served.
On Saturday, the Town Plaza will come alive with entertainment, food, drink (including mead from the Meadery) and vendors from 10 am to 8 pm. Festival guests can also stroll down Main Street to the Palisade Veterans Memorial Building (Community Center) where the Palisade Art Lovers will host their annual Peach Blossom Art Show from 10 am to 6 pm.
Anyone who would like to have a booth can contact Juliann Adams at Wine Country Inn for more information or to register. Phone: 464-5777. Email: Juliann@coloradowinecountryinn.com.
The PIHF Committee includes Zadrozny, who owns Z's Orchards: Mickie Harshman and Marla Wood, The Blue Pig Gallery; Pat Kennedy, The Meadery of the Rockies and St. Kathryn Cellars; Arden Blatter, Palisade Art Lovers; Naomi Smith, Grande River Vineyards; Blane Colton, Epicurean Honey Co.; Adams and Jean Tally, Wine Country Inn. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the Festival can contact Adams at 464-5777 or Zadrozny at 261-5809.
