Colorado grocery workers set to vote on final offer

DENVER (AP) - Unionized Colorado grocery workers are about to start voting on the last, best and final contract offers from their companies.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 represents about 17,000 workers at Safeway, King Soopers and City Market. The union says ballots are being mailed starting Friday, and voting is expected to take two weeks.

The 52-month offer includes signing bonuses ranging from $150 to $1,000. The highest-paid workers would receive raises of 30 cents an hour the first year and 25 cents per hour in subsequent years. New workers wouldn't have to wait as long to get health benefits.

Workers and the stores have been in negotiations for six months.
