H1N1 vaccine schedule this week
H1N1 vaccine walk-ins are available from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. for the following groups: pregnant women, caregivers/household contacts of kids younger than 6 months; children 6 months-4 years; people 5-64 with chronic medical condition; health care workers.
On Tues., it reverts back to appointment-only for the same groups listed above from 1-6 p.m. Schedule an appointment Mon. for Tues. by calling 683-6636, health.mesacounty.us. Wed., there will be no H1N1 vaccinations given out. Thurs. & Fri., of course, closed due to holidays.
Date set for 123rd annual Mesa County Fair
The Mesa County Executive Fair Board has set the dates for the 2010 County Fair: July 20-24 at the MC Fairgrounds, 2785 US Hwy 50.
“Believe it or not, the planning is already underway for next July,” said Roger Rawlings, president of the all-volunteer planning board. The board has chosen the theme for the 2010 Fair—“Bright Lights & Summer Nights.” The theme will be used throughout the Fair for decorations as well as themed contests and competitions. Drugnet
On Tues., drug task force officers busted Shawn Gray, 50, and found him to be in possession of meth. Jennifer Sharp, 32, was contacted on a traffic stop and found in possession of meth.
James Gerdes, 25, was contacted Thurs. in the 1700 block of Grand Ave. by the GJ Street Crimes Unit. An investigation revealed that Gerdes was in possession of over one gram of suspected meth and drug paraphernalia. Gerdes was arrested and booked into the MCSO Jail.
Clayton Don White, 26, was arrested Fri. after he was contacted and found to have an active warrant for his arrest. White was also found to be in possession of a schedule II controlled substance with intent to distribute, was in possession of drug paraphernalia, was operating a vehicle while his license was suspended and failed to provide evidence of insurance upon request.
DUI chronicles
From GJPD reports: Kathrine Nelson, 36 was arrested Fri. for DUI at 311 Cedar St.
Katherine Ann Lucero, 30, was arrested Fri. for no proof of insurance, DUI, denied driver license and expired plates.
Damon Devlin Powell, 29, was arrested Fri. for careless driving and DUI. Both occurred at 30 and Patterson roads.
Be a show-off
Artwork for display is being sought for Family Health West's new hospital. Artists are asked to submit a portfolio of work to the Fruita Arts & Culture Board for a 90-day display beginning in January 2010. The hospital seeks works to be hung in the lobby and some other venues. Artwork must be submitted to and approved by the board as well as by Family Health West's art coordinator.
The hospital will issue a formal invitation to each chosen artist and host a reception highlighting the artist.
Deadline for January through March 2010 exhibit is scheduled for the board's December meeting on Dec. 14. To apply, visit City of Fruita, Parks & Rec Dept., 325 E. Aspen Ave., 81521; form due Dec. 11.
