Chamber supports uranium mill, applauds Brady decision

In a board of directors meeting Thursday, the GJ Chamber Board took official action to support the licensing, construction and operation of the Pinion Ridge Mill. Energy Fuels Resources has obtained a Special Use Permit from Montrose County and has applied for a Radioactive Materials License from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Safety.

Board members cited several reasons to support this action including the projected positive economic benefit to the region, the fact that currently 20% of this country's electricity is generated by nuclear power and the low-carbon nature of this energy fuel.

On another matter the board discussed and applauded the District Court ruling issued Monday by Judge David Bottger that upheld the GJ City Clerk's determination that a petition filed by opponents to a City Council zoning decision in the matter of Brady Trucking Company was insufficient. The Chamber had voted to oppose zoning by petition late last year as a threat to the overall business climate. Organization leaders cited the uncertainty that such actions would create as a disincentive for business investment and job creation in the community.
