24 businesses fail booze enforcement check

Local law enforcement agencies cited 24 business establishments for selling alcoholic beverages to underage individuals last weekend, authorities said.

The businesses were cited during a series of compliance checks in Grand Junction and Mesa County.

The compliance checks were done at liquor stores, restaurants and wineries. A total of 186 businesses were checked.

The Colorado Liquor Enforcement Division, Grand Junction Police Department and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office conducted the checks Friday and Saturday.

The most recent compliance check was the third one this year.

“We will keep doing this until we have a 100 percent success rate and then we will continue doing it,” Sgt. Tony Marsh, Mesa County Sheriff's Office said. “We hover around the 10-19 percent failure rate on almost every compliance check we do, so clearly kids under 21 are still getting alcohol. Consistency in checking identification is key to businesses having a successful 100 percent compliance with alcohol enforcement laws all the time.”

The following businesses failed during the most recent compliance check:

Il Bistro Italiano, Suehiro Japanese Restaurant, Dolce Vita, Last Chance Liquors, Teller Arms Liquors, Stoney Mesa Winery LTD (Palisade), Coronado Liquor Mart (Clifton), Palisade Cafe & Grill, Peachwood Liquor (Palisade), Center Town Liquors (Fruita), In the Middle Liquors (Fruita), Kuniko's Teriyaki Grill, Eagles Fraternal Order, Crown Liquors (GJ) Genghis Grill, Tequila's Mexican Restaurant, Garfield's Off Broadway, Albertsons Food Center (GJ), Zen Garden, New Dragon Wall, Chuck E Cheese, Pizza Hut-North Ave., Qdoba Mexican Grill, La Bamba Mexican Restaurant.
