There is little doubt that western Colorado took longer to feel the effects of the national foreclosure crisis. Perhaps because of that, cooperative community responses to assisting homeowners are not yet as formally developed here as they are in other Colorado metro areas.
One of the major tools used in the Front Range to combat the spread of foreclosure is a community event known as a Default Clinic or Borrower Outreach event. At an event like this, struggling homeowners can visit counselors, lenders, and resource agencies all at one time, in one place. They can also listen to educational presentations from industry experts that will empower them to make the decisions necessary and take the action needed to avoid foreclosure.
We are pleased to announce that on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Canyon View Vineyard Church, a collaborative effort between local agencies and national entities is bringing to Grand Junction the Western Colorado Foreclosure Prevention Assistance Fair.
Next week in this column, we will provide more details about this event. You may also call the Grand Junction Housing Authority at 245-0388, ext. 214 for more information.

Every week, Amy Case, home ownership coordinator with the Grand Junction Housing Authority, will offer a foreclosure prevention tip of the week. Case is also a nationally certified foreclosure intervention and default counselor. For questions or information, reach her at 245-0388, ext. 214.
