DENVER (AP) - State Rep. Scott Tipton is getting into the race to represent Colorado's 3rd Congressional District.

Tipton said Wednesday he will be filing paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to challenge Democrat John Salazar in the Western Slope district.

Tipton is a Republican from Cortez. In nine months, he says the national debt has tripled, the stimulus bills have grown government and Washington is forcing health care on voters.

Tipton says Salazar's support for those initiatives are out of step with people in his district.

Salazar defeated Tipton for the congressional seat in 2006.
