I was impressed that a column this biased and full of half-truths and insinuation could get published.
Most of the opinions of the Armstrongs here seem based on fuzzy thinking and political bias (although I do admire the basic love of American freedom and free enterprise which show through). So, after studying the issue, I do think it was a good thing to ban DDT — am I now a radical, responsible for murder? Hogwash! Mosquitoes kill people, not DDT.
The way this column refers to “radical environmentalists” reminds me greatly of the way “communists” were referred to 50 years ago. Insinuations, bigotry, and fear-based fuzzy thinking were all the rage. Yet red-faced Senator McCarthy eventually sunk in his own pit of radicalism, and the Communists became irrelevant. Pandering like that seen in this column will not help American industry, human progress, or keep the earth habitable.
By the way, I'm all for free-market, non-taxpayer-supported nuclear power, despite the fact that there are cheaper ways to boil water. Unfortunately, the U.S. nuclear power industry makes Reagan-era Chicago “welfare queens” look like Milton Friedman.
