Emergency shelter training at Global Heart

For the second year, churches in Grand Junction are offering their sites as Emergency Shelter support to house the overflow of people from Homeward Bound, our local community homeless shelter.

The Global Heart Spiritual Center will be an emergency shelter site during the evenings of Nov. 15 through the 28 and welcomes volunteers from the community to serve at their location during the days preceding and following Thanksgiving.

A volunteer training will take place at Global Heart, 1622 Glenwood Ave., Sunday, Nov. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon; those attending are welcome to stay for hospitality following the training. For more information, call 361-8308. Other scheduled volunteer trainings will take place at Homeward Bound's North Avenue location on Nov. 21, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9. Clothing give-away

The Grand Junction Church of Christ, 2893 F Road, recently held its 23rd annual clothing drive and now they are giving the clothes away. Anyone in need of clothing is encouraged to go to the church Nov. 5-6 from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., or Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. - noon. For more info call 245-4210.

Holiday House Bazaar

First United Methodist Church, located at Fifth and White, will hold its annual bazaar the weekend of Nov. 6-7.

On Friday, Nov. 6, they will open from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., serving a lunch of soup, salad, sandwiches and homemade pie from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 7, the hours are 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. They will have a Victorian Tea Room, The Christmas Boutique, The Country Store, The Pantry, and The Book Nook.

Young Life fundraiser

Young Life and WyldLife's annual Roundup and fundraiser will be held Nov. 1 at Two Rivers Convention Center. A reception will start at 6:30 p.m. for guests to meet the new Area Director Luke Feather and his wife, Stacy.

The complimentary dessert and program will run from 7 until 8:30 p.m. The suggested attire is Western casual.

Young Life is a nondenominational ministry dedicated to middle and high school students across the Grand Valley. This fundraiser provides support for students to attend summer and winter camps and the general needs of this nonprofit. For reservations, contact Glenn Kimbrough, 254-0787.

Find peace with your finances

Financial Peace University, the 13-week program taught by Dave Ramsey, has helped more than 750,000 families positively change their financial future. New series at Unity Church

Beginning Nov. 1, the Rev. J Douglas Bottorff, author of three books, will present a series of 12 Sunday talks based on the book, “Lessons In Truth,” by H. Emilie Cady. These simple lessons represent the heart of the Unity teaching and provide much in the way of practical instruction on living a more prosperous, healthy, spirit-centered life. Unity Church is located on 12th Street between Patterson Road and Horizon Drive. Sunday service begins at 10:30 a.m. Educational child care is provided.

Fall food drive

Crossroads United Methodist Church, corner of 30 and F roads, is sponsoring a fall food drive to benefit the Clifton Christian Church Food Bank from Nov. 1-Nov. 8. The church will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday to drop off donations. Any nonperishable food items are welcome, but the food bank is in greatest need of proteins such as peanut butter and canned meat. For more information, call 242-0577.

Food drive

A food drive to benefit Trinity Baptist Food Bank, 2748 B 1/2 Road, will run through Nov. 22. The food bank provided food for over 400 people during the month of September. As the weather cools the need increases so they are asking for your help to support this worthy mission. For more information, call 242-2355.

Laugh your way to a better marriage

Canyon View Vineyard Church, 736 24 1/2 Road, will hold a seminar for married couples, singles and divorced people on Friday, Nov. 6, from 7-10 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. You will get a chance to laugh about and make vital changes to your relationships. Reach a child in crisis expo
