Open house on roads
CDOT, Mesa County, the City of Fruita, and the City of GJ are inviting the public to the final open houses regarding the US 6 West/SH 139 Access Plan currently being developed. The plan includes the section of US 6 between the Redlands Parkway and 12 Road and SH 139 between N 1⁄4 Road and I-70. Dates: Wed., Oct. 28, 4-7 p.m. West Gate Inn, 2210 Hwy. 6&50 & Thurs., Oct. 29, 4-7 p.m., La Quinta Inn, 570 Raptor Rd. Fruita.
Fruita wants to buy art
The City of Fruita is looking to purchase an interactive piece of art for the downtown area between Circle Park and Peach Street. The piece will be handled by the public and may include anything from musical instruments to pieces that allow others to walk in, around or on them. Budget: $3,000.
Submit your proposals to 325 E. Aspen, Fruita Civic Center, no later than 5 p.m. Nov. 12. Info: www.fruitaart.com.
Sweet swingers
The GJHS Jazz Bands presents Swingin' Sweets Dance Nov. 6 with jazz music, dancing, espresso bar provided by Java Junction Coffee Shop and desserts from 7:30-10 p.m. It will be at the GJHS cafeteria at 1400 N. 5th St. Tickets: Java Junction (2401 North Ave.) or from GJHS jazz students. All proceeds go directly into the band fund to be used for GJHS band functions. Cost: adults $5; students & seniors $3.

Cheyne Redington, 20, was arrested Sat. for DUI, underage possession of alcohol, an active CICJIS warrant, and more, after being contacted on N. 17th St. Patrick Reilly, 20, was arrested and released on a summons for underage possession of alcohol at the same location.
Calvin Ahkeah, 26, was arrested Sat. and jailed after investigation revealed he stabbed the victim at 1021 Teller Ave.
Adam Miscavage, 30 was arrested Sat. and released on a summons for DUI at North Ave. and 23rd St.
Dustin Vogt, 26, was contacted Fri. at 6th and Main Street for public intoxication. Vogt was arrested and sent MC Jail for a restraining order violation, obstructing a peace officer, and 2nd degree assault.
Paul Freeman, 26, was arrested Fri. and transported to MC Jail for unlawfully entering another person's dwelling, damaging that person's property at 1341 Main St. He also was in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
Deadline for mailing troops
The general holiday mailing deadline for mail going to troops serving in the Iraq and Afghanistan area is Dec. 4. The general deadline is Dec. 11 for mail sent to our troops serving elsewhere around the world.
The Postal Service also offers a $2 discount and a tremendous value, only $11.95 in postage - for Americans sending Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Boxes to our troops serving overseas.

Anyone interested in displaying original artwork at the City Hall are invited to submit four photographs or images of their work along with their contact information and a brief resume to the Commission on Arts and Culture, 1340 Gunnison Ave., in order to be considered for exhibits in 2010, 2011, and 2012.
