New Outreach Program for Seniors
A collaborative team made up of various agencies including the Mesa County Area Agency on Aging (AAA), Senior Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), and the Adult Resources for Care and Help (ARCH) is looking for volunteers to participate in a special outreach project. Volunteers will help enroll seniors and persons with disabilities in the Low-income Subsidy (LIS), the Extra Help Program or the Medicare Savings Program (MSP). Volunteer duties will include recruitment at outreach fairs and events as well as direct outreach and recruitment efforts to individuals in our community. Volunteers must be willing to attend training sessions and be available at least 2 hours per week for enrollment assistance. Volunteers must have excellent interpersonal communication skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to read forms and help clients understand what information is needed to complete the forms. Mesa County's senior nutrition program has several openings for adult volunteers (18 years and older) to help out at one of our meal sites in the valley by setting tables, serving meals, and assisting with clean up from approximately 10:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. one regularly scheduled day per week. Alpine Hospice
Alpine Hospice serves patients in Mesa, Garfield, Pitkin, Delta, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel Counties. Volunteers are needed in each of our service areas to provide direct support to patients, including companionship, reading, running errands, playing board games, birthday recognition and a variety of other tasks. If you have a heart for hospice, we have a volunteer opportunity that will fit you. If you have a few hours to give each week or even once a month, call Sandy at 245-0188 to join the dynamic and caring team at Alpine Hospice.
Riverside Educational Center
Local nonprofit that provides after school tutoring and enrichment services for K-12th grade students. The REC is recruiting volunteer tutors to assist students with their homework and other basic reading and math skills. It is open from 4:15-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
