My recent letter to the editor posed the rhetorical question: Where was Scott McInnis during Obama's health care reform visit to Grand Junction?
After all, the visit was arguably the most significant political event to ever occur in Grand Junction. A response printed literally identified McInnis' physically location at the time of the event — the writer missed my point entirely.
McInnis is largely absent during the ongoing debate over health care reform. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, one of the nation's best hopes for the next generation of Republicans, was in Grand Junction alongside Sen. Josh Penry and Mayor Bruce Hill.
All of them provided articulate, informed opposition to Obama's plan to socialize health care. The response to my letter also correctly noted McInnis was elsewhere lobbying delegates in a campaign for governor. However, when the most liberal president in the history of the United States proposes radically changing how Americans receive health care, and then shows up in your town, you don't go AWOL as McInnis did. Finally, the responder should have also checked my voter registration to learn I am registered unaffiliated, and not the Republican he identified me to be. And if Republicans like McInnis don't stand up to Obama, I will remain unaffiliated, for life.
