Commish oppose cap n trade
MC Commissioners this week passed a resolution strongly opposing federal legislation that has been passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (commonly referred to as the “cap-and-trade bill”) now moves on to the Senate for consideration.According to the resolution, the cap-and-trade bill will drastically raise energy costs for utility customers, as well as for manufactured goods produced in the U.S.

Catfish record broken
(AP) — An Aurora man has broken the state record for channel catfish with a 35-pounder caught in Aurora Reservoir. The state Division of Wildlife says Mike Stone caught the 37-inch fish on July 26. It weighed 35.22 pounds. The previous record was 33.5 pounds, set in 1994 by John McKeever at Hertha Reservoir in Larimer County.

Yummy leftovers
The DOW says all “leftover” big game and turkey licenses will go on sale Aug. 11. Leftover licenses are limited elk, deer, pronghorn, bear and turkey licenses that did not sell during the spring drawing/application process.
There are 9,000+ deer, 3,000 pronghorn and 42,000+ elk licenses available. Purchase leftovers on first-come, first-served basis at statewide license agents, DOW offices, by phone (1-800-244-5613). Online purchases start 8 a.m. Aug. 12, on the DOW Web site.
One more weekend to stuff it
There is less than a week (and one weekend) left to Stuff the Bus!
Stuff the Bus is a school supply drive taking place in Claire's Court of Mesa Mall to benefit School District #51. Donations are down significantly this year, so if possible, do what you can. The drive ends Aug. 10.

In an effort to continue fostering community, KAFM's next Lifelong Learning presentation will be GLBT 101 for Straight People.
