A 27-year-old Palisade man was arrested over the weekend for an alleged theft. Jacob Daniel Wood is accused of theft of $1,000 to $20,000. The class IV felony carries a penalty of up to six years in state prison.
Alleged witness intimidation
Brandon James Smith, 21, was arrested late Saturday for allegedly retaliating against a victim or witness to a crime. He faces two felony counts in connection with the alleged incident.

Tops in the state
A new report from the Colo.'s Dept. of Public Safety ranks Mesa County's Community Corrections program higher than any other in the state.
The report analyzes and compares 32 similar programs around the state. It ranks the programs based on 25 factors, such as escape rates, recidivism, monitoring of offenders, and stability of security staff.
New kickball league
Fruita Parks and Rec will be starting a co-ed adult kickball league. The season will run from Sept. 20 - Oct. 25 with games held Sun. evenings at Little Salt Wash Park. Cost $250 per team (up to 25 people per roster). Register by Sept. 7. Info: 858-0360, www.fruita.org.
