GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Business Incubator Center is celebrating entrepreneurship and small businesses in Mesa County with its first ever “summer marketplace and treasure hunt,” from 2- 8 p.m. Friday.
Twenty-six vendors — all past or present clients of the Incubator — will set up booths at the Incubator campus, 2591 B 3/4 Road, to showcase their wares or services.
While the economy in general may be hurting, some small Mesa County businesses are doing quite well, said Incubator kitchen manager Annalisa Pearson. The Incubator seeks to emphasize people's successes in “creating their own prosperity.”
The purpose of the event is to “highlight these businesses and show the community the opportunities, innovation and positive growth we see every day in our clients,” Pearson said.
For 20 years the nonprofit Incubator has assisted new, expanding or fledgling Mesa County businesses by offering support through affordable rental space, business loans, low-cost business classes and free consulting. The Incubator currently supports hundreds of clients with their businesses.
Friday's marketplace event will include live music by the “Hawaiian roots reggae band” Pineapple Crackers, a bump-n-jump, face painting and balloon tying for kids, and an Orchard Mesa business treasure hunt with prizes.
The treasure hunt will begin at the Incubator campus where people pick up their first clue which leads them to various Orchard Mesa businesses. After all the clues have been collected the person returns to the Incubator and is eligible for a drawing of a “big” prize. Various Orchard Mesa businesses will be donating other prizes as well, Pearson said.
“It gets people familiar with Orchard Mesa businesses,” Pearson said.
Complimentary drinks will be available at the Summer Marketplace event, as well as food for sale by various Incubator clients — including fajitas, hot dogs and sandwiches by Sarnies Deli, an Incubator client. Enstrom's ice cream will also be for sale.
