Helen Cora Weaver

March 20, 1915 — July 5, 2009

On March 20, 1915, Helen Cora Kotzy was born to John Kotzy and Lena K. Mattivi Kotzy in Telluride, CO. John Kotzy died in 1918 in Marysville, Montana. Helen's mother married Joseph Bizer in July, 1920, who adopted Helen and gave her his name of Bizer.

Helen spent her early childhood in Telluride and moved with her family to Palisade, CO in the year of 1925. She attended school at Mt. Lincoln, Palisade, and Grand Junction High School.

On May 1, 1932, Helen married Carl Louis Anderson. They lived a short time in New Market, Iowa, where their first daughter, Patricia, was born. Later they lived in Silverton, CO where Carol Lou was born. The rest of their married life, they lived in Palisade, CO where they had Sylvia, Mary and Karen. Carl died May 10, 1974.

After moving to Grand Junction, Helen married William A. Weaver on December 13, 1984.

Helen went to work for the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder in 1960 and retired from the Motor Vehicle Department as Supervisor in 1982.

Helen was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Palisade, and at the time of her passing, she had been the oldest living member of the church there. Helen was a precinct Chairman, District Captain and Vice-Chairman of the Democratic Party. She received the State Democrat of the Year award in the year of 1971. She was also involved with the Grand Valley Migrant Council.

Her special interests were traveling, golf and bridge. She was always interested in and kept current on community, state and national political situations, candidates and issues.

She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Douglas) Dean, Carol (Jon) Hiebert, both of Grand Junction, CO; Mary Bein of Indianapolis, IN, and Karen (Richard) DeLeon, Maui, HI; step-daughter, Nancy (Wayne) Hattabaugh of Webster, MA; a brother, Max Bizer and a sister, Irene DeRose, both of Grand Junction, CO; 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her mother, father and step-father, two husbands and her daughter, Sylvia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, the Grand Junction Community Food Bank, or Hospice of Western Colorado.

Mass will be held on Friday, July 10th at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's in Palisade. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
