Salazar a ‘kiss up'?

I was amused to see the spokesman for the Western Slope Conservative Alliance announcing that members of his group would vote against Rep. John Salazar if he supported the recent climate bill that passed the US house last week.

As if anyone in that group voted for Rep. Salazar last November. And as if they will vote for him in 2010 despite his deserting his party and joining those who choose to stick their heads in the sand and pretend we don't need to act on climate change.

Why do these “moderate” “Blue Dog” Democrats bend over backwards to kiss up to those who never voted for them, and never will?

Eight Republican members of the House voted in favor of the climate bill, and Democrats from conservative states like Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, N. Carolina, S. Carolina, and Tennessee all saw their way to support the president and represent the people who elected them. I guarantee that those who scoff at global warming voted for his opponent in 2008 (as did the majority in Mesa County), and will vote for the Republican candidate in 2010. Name recognition and a “moderation” strong enough to erase the (D) after your name will carry you only so far, Rep. Salazar, and many who have supported you will have a hard time checking your name on the ballot next time around.
