Fresh start

The Clifton branch library is now re-opened in its new location, 590 32 Road, Unit 6F. Library hours are back to normal, Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sat. 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

No more burn

The spring open burning season ended Sun., May 31. All residential/commercial open burning, with the exception of recreational campfires and other exemptions, is prohibited until fall burning season. Info: 248-6966 or visit www.health.mesacounty.us.

Always be nice to mom

MC Sheriff’s contacted Daniel Quintana, 48, who was drunk and arguing with his mother and calling her disrespectful names. Apparently, mom was angry with son for using one of her nice dishes to feed his dog, and a fight ensued. The good son was asked to leave Mom’s property on Chuckar Way in Clifton by removing his camper the following day.

Symphony library tour

To kick-off Summer Library Programs at MC Libraries, the GJ Symphony Brass Quintet is visiting library branches. During the performance, musicians will explain some facts about their instrument. Schedule: June 3, 2:30 p.m. - Clifton branch library; June 4, 10 a.m. - Fruita branch library; June 5, 10 a.m. - Orchard Mesa branch library.

Block party & art

Fifteen Fruita artists will be demonstrating their talent Sat., June 6, during the Fruita Block Party, 6-9pm, Fruita Brewhouse, 127 E. Aspen Ave. Display includes batik, pastel, clay and watercolor as well as time-lapsed photography.

Professional tennis in GJ

The 49th annual Elam Classic Men’s Professional Tennis Tournament begins Fri., June 12, Canyon View tennis courts. The jackpot is a $10,000 purse, making it one of the biggest prize money tournaments in the western states.

Spectators are welcome. Sets begin at 8 a.m. Fri.&Sat. and at 9 a.m. Sun.

Do the Hustle!

The Highline Hustle Sprint Triathlon is June 13, check in at 6 a.m., race 7:30. It’s a fee of 75 hardearned dollars to swim 500 meters in the lake, bike ride 16 miles and run for 3. Includes lunch and T-shirt, and good sweaty fun. Register: Stacy, 245-3888.

Flag day tribute

The Redlands Lions Club will be putting out flags June 14 in remembrance of Flag Day to recognize our great country, our leaders and all who are serving in the military service. Book drive

Little fighting Olympians

Fighting Tigers Taekwondo, 3210 I-70 B, suite N, Clifton, will be sponsoring 6 local competitors which have qualified and will be going to the USAT JR Olympic Natl Competition in Austin, TX, June 30-July 5.

The club really need $5,000 to be able to take the students to this event. They are asking for help from the community or business to give these students the opportunity to impact their lives in a great way. Call Cindy, 523-8447.

Where the power is!

MC Commissioners are looking for volunteers to serve on the MC Planning Commission.

They get to decide general land use matters, the fate of strip clubs, etc. Term is 3 years. Interested? Call Kathy, 244-1860.

Seniors, don’t hang up!

MC seniors have the opportunity to learn more about important issues such as identify theft, employment, and long-term care. The MCGOLD Seniors Commission is hosting a telephone town hall meeting Thurs., June 18, 3-4 p.m. The call will go out to all active, registered voters 65+. Neighborhood cleanup

Housing Resources of Western Colorado is teaming up with Clifton area residents to clean up their yards, and beautify their curb walkways June 13, 10 a.m., at the Fruitvale Meadows and Ilse Subdivisions, located at 30 3⁄4 and D 1⁄2 Rd.
