GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP) learned this morning that the Suncor/Lignol cellulosic ethanol commercial demonstration plant project has been suspended. Lignol cited the current state of the economy and the uncertainty in commodity prices as primary reasons for their decision.
We worked hard to attract the Suncor demonstration project and so we are disappointed by this news. At the same time, it is far better to have these plans suspended now, before capital investments have been committed and people have been hired, than to be faced with an abrupt loss of income at a later date, says Ann Driggers, GJEP President and CEO. GJEP will continue to work with both Suncor and Lignol in an effort to secure this project for our community.
GJEP will continue its outreach to the many healthy industries that will thrive in this economy and that will help support a diverse economic base in the Grand Valley, states Driggers.
