Ada Bessie Kindrick was born to John William and Mary Lela (Quillin) Kindrick on Dec. 26, 1932. She died Sept. 28.
Born in West Texas, Bessie grew up on a farm and attended rural schools near Lubbock; she was the valedictorian of Wilson High School class of 1950. She went on to attend Draughons Business College. She met Stanley Duane Scott and they were united in marriage on May 8, 1954, at Roswell, N.M. The couple moved to Grand Junction in 1957 and in the mid-1960s they purchased the Bel-Air Motel on North Avenue. They owned that business for almost nine years. Both Bessie and Duane were active in the real estate business. Bessie obtained her brokers license and was a part of both Scott Real Estate Agency and Bessie Scott Real Estate Agency. In the early 80s Bessie worked as a legal assistant for the Honorable David A. Palmer; she retired from that position in 1992.
One of her passions in Colorado and the surrounding states was competitive trail riding. She and Duane both played a role in bringing that sport to the west slope of Colorado. After the gymkhana arena at 32 Road had to be relocated, the riding club and all its members poured their resources into starting competitive sanctioned rides in the area. The North America Trail Riding Conference consumed the familys spare time and energies for many years during the 70s. Other activities Bessie loved were camping on Brush Creek and Pinon Mesa, reading, snowmobiling, painting, researching family genealogy, playing dominoes and taking vacations with her circle of friends. A long-standing believer in our lord Jesus Christ, Bessie was a member of the First Assembly of God in Grand Junction.
She is survived by son Douglas (Suzan) Scott of Capetown, South Africa; daughter Zoe (John) Lemaster of Grand Junction; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Kindrick; her husband, Duane Scott; infant daughter Virginia Karol Scott; brothers Sammy, Billy and Henry Kindrick; and sisters Marguerite Meyer and Angeline Richardson.
Visitation will be Sunday, Oct. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. Services will be on Monday, Oct. 6, at First Assembly of God, Fourth and Grand Avenue, Grand Junction at 10 a.m. with Pastor Ted Miller and Pastor Jerry Boschen officiating. Burial will take place afterward at Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bessies name to Assemblies of God World Missions, Cape Theological Seminary, Special Projects #29429-93(40), 1445 N. Booneville Ave., Springfield, MO 65802-1894, or The Salvation Army, 1235 N. Fourth St., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
