Jason McRoberts
GRAND JUNCTION A man is accused of having sexual intercourse with his dog as a 7-year-old boy watched.
Jason L. McRoberts, 30, surrendered at the Mesa County Jail on Wednesday on a warrant alleging obscenity the charge is a relatively minor class-six felony.
A Grand Junction police detective started working the case in July after receiving a possible abuse referral from a social services worker in Texas, according to the warrant.
The boys mother, who lives in Texas, told authorities there shed caught the boy trying to have sex with her dog.
When she asked the boy about it, he allegedly said McRoberts was doing it to their dog in Grand Junction and he needed to learn how to do it, the affidavit said.
When interviewed by a specialist at a Texas childrens advocacy center, the boy explained McRoberts allegedly made him watch as he engaged in sexual intercourse with the pet a male dog named JoJo.
Jason told (boy) that he needed to stay in the room and watch him and he also needs to learn how to do this, the affidavit said.
The boys mother said her son was with McRoberts from August 2007 through Christmas, before returning to McRoberts home in January.
The affidavit alleges the act happened sometime between December 2007 and June 2008.
McRoberts was wanted on a separate arrest warrant for failure to appear on an indecent exposure charge, the affidavit said.
McRoberts was released from custody Wednesday after posting a $1,000 cash bond.
Hell be formally charged next Thursday.
District Attorney Pete Hautzinger on Thursday held out the possibility McRoberts may also be charged with child abuse.
Ive never seen anything quite like this, Hautzinger said.
