Frances M. Cooper of Grand Junction died Aug. 27 at Mantey Heights Nursing Home.
Frances was born in Grand Junction on June 6, 1923, the first of four children born to Carl John and Myrtle Eva Forstrom. She attended Grand Junction High and graduated in 1941.
Many years and five children later, Frances attended and graduated from Mesa Junior College and Western State College. She taught art at Orchard Mesa Junior High School for over 25 years, retiring in 1984. Frances met Edgar Lloyd West while working in a boarding house in Uravan after high school graduation. They were married on Dec. 26, 1941, in Aztec, N.M. They were married for 44 years and raised four children. Ed died on June 19, 1986.
In 1988, Frances married Jimmie F. Cooper. Jimmie passed away in 2006. Frances was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Sunshine Chapter No. 53, Gem and Mineral Club, Ladies Auxiliary of the Rio Grande Veterans No.4, Elks Lodge 575, Elks Ladies Past Presidents, Delta Kappa Gamma and Alpha Mu.
Survivors include her four children, Mary Ann (Clyde) Doyal, Barbara Jo (Michael) Jacobs, Jean Marie (Fred) Selan and James Edward (Gail) West; and one sister, Lillian (John) Schoening. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jackie and Carl Jr.; and infant son James F. West.
Graveside services will be held at Orchard Mesa Cemetery in Grand Junction at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30.
