One of Colorados oldest citizens, Elizabeth Foraker, died last week at the age of 107.
Lizzie, as she was called from her early years, was born Elizabeth Eva Renner on April 2, 1901, at her parents home near Omega, Okla. The daughter of German immigrants, Lizzie was the oldest of eight children.
She attended a rural two-room school house, walking nearly 2 miles to school less if she cut across the pastures.
Lizzies family introduced her to Lawson Foraker, a young man from a nearby farm. They later married on Aug. 19, 1923, and started a family. The family moved a few times after the wedding, but in 1937 they settled on 20 acres in Fruitvale and never moved again.
Lizzie has 114 direct descendants. She and Lawson had nine children, 25 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Betty (Larry) Faul of Flint, Mich., and Hazel (Frosty) Littrell and Collene (Ron) Milsap, both of Grand Junction; sons Frank and Roy (Marilyn), both of Grand Junction, and Howard of Denver; and three sons-in-law, Bob Manley of Nampa, Idaho, and Donald Odneal and Bob Sutton of Grand Junction.
Lizzie was preceded in death by Lawson, her husband of 68 years, in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her daughters Dorothy Manley, Peggy Odneal and Ruth Sutton; son-in-law Carl Thomas; and daughter-in-law Jo Foraker.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. at the Palisade Nazarene Church. Viewing will be Tuesday, Aug. 26, from 5-7 p.m. at Callahan-Edfast.
