Shirley Jean Sutherland Woods of Palisade lost her battle with ALS, surrounded by her loving family at her residence, on Wednesday, Aug. 13. She was 64.
Shirley was born in Granite City, Ill., to James Pearl and Oneita (Williams) Sutherland. Shirley married Gary Gene Woods on July 28, 1962, in Naturita, Colo. They recently celebrated 46 wonderful years together.
Shirley devoted her entire life to her family, beautiful lawn, garden, and following her children and grandchildren in their school and sporting events.
She loved and was loved by everyone she ever met. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gary; son Gary (Lisa) Wayne; daughter Sherry Ann (Marty) Dana; brothers Lee (Tammy) Sutherland, Bill (Rhonda) Sutherland, Jim (Vanessa) Sutherland, Bob (Mardell) Sutherland, Rick (Stephanie) Sutherland and Randy Sutherland; sisters Doris (Vern) Kessler, Donna (Ken) Robbins, Diane (George) Sanders, Cheryl (Mike) Eades and Kathy (Steve) Hessler; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers Larry and Curtis; and brother-in-law Kenneth Woods.
Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Palisade Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Don Blanchard officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grand Junction.
