Increasing our commissioners from three to five will be a great financial benefit from the outset. I personally saw, as the board president of a six-county organization for four years, great benefits in both advisory and regulatory functions through increasing our board members.
There was more expertise, experience, and well thought-out decisions than when the Board was three members less. There was closer personal monitoring, and it removed the good old boy phenomenon (I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine), and increased accountability amongst members. More decisions were made in the name of the majority versus any special interests of the minority.
Our current commissioners appear to me to be two and one versus an interactional three. Our county is now very large and commissioners need to increase also for creative thinking, decision making, and most importantly, for residents’ welfare and responsible fiscal decisions.
