Joyce M. Henrie Otto

Aug. 12, 1927 - July 16, 2008

Longtime Delta-area resident Joyce M. Otto died Wednesday, July 16, at the Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 80.

Joyce M. Otto was born to Robert J. and Vera Henderson on Aug. 12, 1927, in Carbon County, Utah. She spent her childhood and attended school in Utah. She moved to Delta more than 56 years ago.

On April 21, 1946, Joyce married George Henrie in Las Vegas. Together they shared over 32 years of love and marriage before George’s passing on July 28, 1978.

On Dec. 11, 1987, Joyce married Bill Otto in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death.

Joyce had a long career as a nurse in Delta starting at the Delta Hospital. She became Dr. Warner’s nurse and worked there for 25 years. Joyce knew everyone in town and couldn’t walk down the street without someone saying she was their favorite nurse. She retired from nursing at 65. After retiring, she and Bill spent six months in the winter in Arizona where they enjoyed horseback riding (at age 60), crafts, crocheting and visiting many friends from other states. Joyce was a loving mother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her twin sister.

Joyce is survived by sons Vern (Pat) Henrie and Scott Henrie, both of Delta; daughters Randi Dixon of Denver and Karen Pilgrim of Delta; and her twin sister, Joy Morasco of Price, Utah. Joyce is further survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, George Henrie; second husband, Bill Otto; an infant son; three sisters; three brothers; and her parents.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 26, at the Delta City Cemetery, with James Gall presiding. All who loved Joyce and wish to share memories are welcome to attend the open house at the home of Vern and Pat Henrie following the service, 992 E. 11th St., Delta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joyce’s memory to the Autism Society of Colorado, 550 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Suite 100, Lakewood, CO 80226 or to the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association, P.O. Box 2364, Colorado Springs, CO 80901.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
