Skimming reports spike
GJPD said Wednesday theyve received 40 reports of skimming. Using a small, portable card reader, a thief swipes the magnetic strip on someones credit card, stealing the info from that card. Since February, losses have totaled nearly $150,000 from 40 people in GJ. In all cases, victims presented cards for valid transactions, and the suspects skimmed info from the cards. The suspects then made a counterfeit card. Report all card fraud to the FTC's Identity Theft Hotline at 877-ID THEFT (438-4338) or online at
www.ftc.gov.
