Girl raped

A girl was given alcohol by an adult man, who then sexually assaulted her in the northern part of GJ. This was reported Thursday at 8:55am.

Don’t smoke, drink on public ground

GJ cops cited many people over the weekend for smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol where they shouldn’t have, city parks.

MC buys treatment center building

For $400,000, MC bought the property at 436 S. 7th St., GJ, now used as an alcohol treatment center, and across 7th St. from the meth treatment center. MC will continue to rent to the tenant, CO West Mental Health Center.

To the dogs

TH&B, Inc., a Washington Corporation, wants to buy the MC animal shelter at 362 28 Rd. for $598,000 and lease it back to the county for $4,000 to $5,000 monthly. MC wants to sell the MC animal shelter for $667,585 with a later closing date and an option to lease it back. MC approved the deal, subject to its counterproposal.

$9.99 a square foot

MC will lease 2800 Printer’s Way from Thurlow-Antonucci Investments, LLC, for $108,329 from July 1 through Aug. 31, 2009.

Hospice meeting tonight

Hospice & Palliative Care of W. CO will host a info night for potential volunteers in the GV Tuesday, June 24, 5:30 – 7:30pm, at the Hospice office, 2754 Compass Dr., Suite 102. Many volunteer opps are available. Info: 683-7619.

Loge to dean’s list

Christopher Loge, GJ, is on the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art & Design in Georgia, where he’s studying animation.

Wild horses

BLM offers 35 mustangs & burros for adoption Saturday, June 28, Montrose CO Fairgrounds. This includes 30 mustangs under 5 and some that have been halter or saddle trained, and a few burros. Registration will be June 27, 5-8pm and June 28, 8:30 – 10:30am. Silent bid adoption will be June 28, 10:30 – 11:30am, Minimum bid of $125 for untrained animals.

Citizen police academy

Someone took a $2,350, blue Ex-Caliber 4-wheeler from an open garage from the 200 block of Lake Rd.

Memorial racing

The inaugural Rocky Grimsley Memorial will be July 5, at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Olathe. Rocky founded and built Thunder Mountain in 1992. He died in July. The race will include go-karts, hobby stocks, I-stocks, modifieds, and kroozers. Info: info@gjlive.com.

The US Navy Seal fitness challenge, Saturday, June 28, 8am - 10am at the OM community pool. A variety of tests, running, sit-ups, push-ups and swimming, will be administered by SEALS in town for a parachute event during County Jam 2008. The Colorado State Patrol said a DUI checkpoint will be up and running Saturday, June 28. They didn’t say where.

Independence Day climb

Who doesn’t like the sounds of a roaring engine followed by the sound of crushing metal? If being in a head-to-head competition exhilarates you, then join the demolition derby at the MC Fair. How to handle PTSD

Three seminars on post traumatic stress disorder will be held at the GJ VA hospital July 9, 16 & 23, 5:30 – 7pm in bldg. 6. Open to the public but will focus on informing veterans, their family members, friends and clergy about symptoms of PTSD and its effects on veterans and those close to them.
