Dog days at work

Today, Friday is “Take Your Dog to Work Day.” Bring a plastic bag (you know why), a leash, water bowl and snacks. Remember, never leave your pet in a hot car, even with the windows open.

PILT checks in

This year’s Mesa County payment in lieu of taxes from the feds of $1.5 million is the largest of any other county in Colorado. Garfield Co’s share is $1.08 mil, and Montrose CO will get $1.2 mil. The money compensates for federal land in the county.

Car stolen

Early Monday morning in the 400 block of Main, a man ordered another man out of his car at knife-point then took the victim's car and other belongings. The car was later found by its owner in the 1000 block of N. 12th St.

Man assaulted

Two unknown Hispanic men assaulted a man in the 1100 block of North Ave. It was reported Tuesday afternoon, cops said.

Trespass

Michael Balentine, 44, and Travis Shannon, 40, were given summonses for trespassing at 2790 D Rd., Wednesday.

Someone living in the 200 block of E. Lynwood Lane reported someone took $100 of solar yard lights Wednesday.

Purse missing

A Denver resident reported leaving her purse at a gas pump at 2998 North Ave., and it was gone when she returned. Value: $605.

OHVehicles show off

Great plays

2 Chairs Theater announces the final week of Acts of Brevity, a play comprised of brief plays. Shows are through Saturday, 7:30pm, $15 at the door. The shows are at West Gate Inn.

Church/sports camp

Canyon View Vineyard, 1st Presbyterian, New Life, River of Life, St. Matthew’s Episcopal, and Uncharted Waters Sports Ministry of Colo. Spgs., host a summer sports camp, June 23-27, at Long Family park, 5 – 8:15pm, $65. Free T-shirt. Coaching & instruction in soccer, basketball, and cheerleading for kids 6-12. Clay art

MSC grad Leah Hickman is raising money to help Africa. She’s hoping lots of people will partake in a half-marathon and 5K in Gateway July 5, 7:30am. $35, $40 after June 21.

NOT: Victoria goes secret

Victoria's Secret at Mesa Mall will move to a new store within the mall across from Zales Jewelers and Gap Outlet in October. The store is moving from 4,079 square feet to 7,303 square feet. Until it moves, it will continue operating at its current location. Also, Zales is remodeling its current location at Mesa Mall. Zales operates out of its location in Cafe Court until the new store opens.

Hanson on MDS board

Mesa Developmental Services added Rob Hanson to its SPEC-TRA Business Advisory Council, the vocational division of MDS. Hanson owns Hanson International of Western CO, and employs people with disabilities. Info: 243-3702.

Be a derby-dude, dude

Who doesn’t like the sounds of a roaring engine followed by the sound of crushing metal? If being in a head-to-head competition exhilarates you, then join the demolition derby at the MC Fair. Drive to support troops

Donate your unwanted car to Operation Interdependence through Vehicles For Charity. VFC will pick up your car, truck, jeep, ATV, snowmobile w/trailer, jet ski w/trailer, RV, motorcycle or boat. If it runs, VFC will pick it up, auction it and donate the proceeds to OI. All donations to OI go for packing expenses and postage to ship boxes to U.S. troops. Tax-deductible. GJ film debuts Oct. 24

The movie filmed in GJ in June, “The Return,” is now called “The Lucky Ones” and will be released in movie theaters Oct. 24, said Lionsgate Ent. Mark your calendars.

How to handle PTSD

Three seminars on post traumatic stress disorder will be held at the GJ VA hospital July 9, 16 & 23, 5:30 – 7pm in bldg. 6. Open to the public but will focus on informing veterans, their family members, friends and clergy about symptoms of PTSD and its effects on veterans and those close to them. Wild horses

BLM offers 35 mustangs & burros for adoption Saturday, June 28, Montrose CO Fairgrounds. This includes 30 mustangs under 5 and some that have been halter or saddle trained, and a few burros. Registration will be June 27, 5-8pm and June 28, 8:30 – 10:30am. Silent bid adoption will be June 28, 10:30 – 11:30am, Minimum bid of $125 for untrained animals.
