Dear Central High School Graduating Class of 2008,

Please don’t think the crowd who came to cheer you on condoned the speaker who wished the graduates going into the military “Happy Hunting.”

We didn’t. Really. He said it just as he introduced you, just as we began our applause, just as we started to honor your dedication and courage.

You are the generation that doesn’t condone bigotry and hatred. You are the generation that does not dehumanize your enemy. You are the generation that knows a true warrior is respectful and honorable.

You know that entering the military during a time of war is not like going deer hunting with your buddies on a gorgeous fall afternoon. You know these things.

This guy was obviously old-school.

You aren’t. We’re proud. We’re glad you are the new generation of leaders!
