Print Comment
Today around 1:30 p.m., a passerby on I-70 called police to report seeing a two-car head-on crash in the area of Mile Marker 28 in the East bound lanes of I-70.

The initial investigation found that a Silver Dodge Caravan driven by a female, was West bound on I-70 from the 24 Road overpass in the east bound # 1 lane of I-70 when crashing head-on with a Red Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was east bound in the #1 lane of I-70.

The Grand Junction Fire Department’s Rescue Squad transported the female driver of the Silver Dodge Caravan and a child passenger from the Red Chevrolet Monte Carlo to St. Mary’s Hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The person deceased and believed to be the driver of Red Chevrolet Monte Carlo has not been identified and that information will be provided by the Mesa County Coroner’s office after post mortem is completed and next of kin notified.

All east bound I-70 traffic will be closed at exit 26 with a detour on to east bound Hwy. 6 & 50 that will allow traffic to take 24 Road to the interstate to continue east bound. The road closure will remain as needed for the investigation until at least 6 p.m.
