Ila Mae Haptonstall

Longtime Surface Creek-area resident Ila Mae Haptonstall died at the Delta County Memorial Hospital on May 3. She was 88.

Ila Mae was born the daughter of Charles E. and Jessie (Johnston) McAnelly on Dec. 29, 1919, in Fort Morgan. She spent her childhood in Fort Morgan and graduated from Cedaredge High School with the class of 1938.

On June 1, 1938, Ila married the love of her life, Ronald V. Haptonstall, in Eckert. In 1953, they moved to Arizona, where they resided until 1982 at which time they moved to Eckert.

Ila was a loving wife and mother to her three sons. She enjoyed quilting, making afghans, crocheting, cooking, canning and taking care of her home.

Ila is survived by sons Ronald (Bonnie) Haptonstall of Brighton and Jerry (Carol) Haptonstall of Eckert. Ila is further survived by eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ila was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Ron Haptonstall; one son, Patrick Haptonstall; and a brother, Roy McAnelly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 10, at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta with Domenic Enrietta and Donavon Peterson presiding. Interment will follow at the Eckert Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ila’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P.O. Box 24, Delta, CO 81416.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
