The carping was loud on a deflated Friday afternoon, Jan. 11.

Cross Canadian Ragweed: “Canceled in Grand Junction, snowed in Steamboat Springs.”

Ticket refunds started about the same time as the complaining: The boys from Oklahoma were suddenly too big for their britches and fans in Happy Valley.
CCR frontman Cody Canada and his crew are acutely aware of the criticism.

“Anytime you cancel a show people are going to piss and moan ... it’s (expletive),” Canada said in an interview last week.

“To all those people, we rescheduled. We’re playing more than 250 dates a year, so it’s apparent we care about what we do.

“We’re going to more than make up for the cancellation.”

    Still mad?

In the band’s third show locally in about two years, CCR is again on the bill Tuesday night at the Mesa Theater.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and things start up around 8 p.m. Tickets are $17.

The quartet from Yukon, Okla., continues to tour in support of November’s release, “Mission California.” Several of the recording’s 14 tracks were played for the first time at Ragweed’s last Grand Junction show in April 2007.

Formed in 1994, CCR’s first recording was “Carney” in 1998. A self-titled recording in 2002 was followed up with “Soul Gravy” in 2004 and “Garage” in 2005.

“Back to Tulsa: Live and Loud at Cain’s Ballroom” was released last year.
The band is known to visit after hours with their fans.

“We don’t have to go too far the next day, so we’ll probably hang and have a few beers,” Canada said.
