An Alaska woman visiting family in Grand Junction allegedly gave birth to a baby boy, killed the child and hid the body before returning to Alaska, according to Grand Junction police.

Morgan Hite, 22, of Wasilla, Alaska, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant alleging first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in the death of an infant boy, police said in a news release Tuesday night.

Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peterson said Hite was arrested by Alaska authorities and Grand Junction police detectives shortly before 5 p.m. MST at a state police substation in Palmer, approximately 11 miles east of Wasilla.

Wasilla, population roughly 9,000, is about 45 miles north of Anchorage.

Peterson said Hite was booked into the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer and bond was set by a judge at $500,000.

Hite is scheduled to appear in court today in Palmer at 11:30 a.m. MST.

Hite’s warrant was signed by a local judge just over a week after Grand Junction police were called to 868 Grand Vista Way on a report of a dead infant.

The home where the boy was found on April 29 is owned by Chris and Stacy Hite.
Morgan Hite’s relationship to the couple has not been confirmed by authorities.

Court records related to the investigation on Tuesday remained under seal by court order.
