First Baptist welcomes senior pastor
First Baptist Church, 720 Grand Ave., is happy to announce the installation of the Rev. David N. DeMott as senior pastor on Sunday, May 4, at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. A reception follows in the church fellowship hall. Members of the community are invited to attend.
Rev. DeMott and his wife, Sheryl, come to Grand Junction from Illinois, where he formerly pastored. He also served for six years as executive director of the Baptist Student Foundation at the University of Illinois in Champaign. Taking part in the Installation Service will be leaders of American Baptist Churches of the Rocky Mountains and members of our local faith community.

Cinco de Mayo fundraiser at Fruita Christian
The Fruita Christian Church will host a Cinco de Mayo fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 5 at the church. There is a $10 donation per plate with all proceeds going toward a mission trip to Mexico. Please call 623-5823 for reservations.

Dances of Universal Peace debut at Unity
Dances of Universal Peace will be celebrated for the first time at Unity of Grand Junction, 3205 N. 12th Ave., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10. They will continue every second Saturday of the month at this location. Admission is free with a love offering taken. For more information contact dance leader Bernie Heideman at (970) 872-2172.
The Dances of Universal Peace are circle dances that use simple folk dance movements with a sacred phrase or mantra from one of the worlds spiritual traditions. Some of the dances are partner dances with many partners and foster connection. Other dances have no partners and are “moving meditations” or body prayer. No special attire is required, although comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is best.

Bethany Christian presents Discover Adoption event
Bethany Christian Services of Grand Junction presents Discover Adoption on Monday, May 12, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lincoln Park Barn, located on 12th Street next to Stocker Stadium. Adoption specialists Eve Anderson, Christy Higdon Jo and Deone Quist will provide details about international, domestic infant and embryo adoption programs offered by Bethany. A panel of adoptive families will also share their stories and answer questions.
