Print Comment
The Mesa State Cycling Club and Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates are hosting the first Grand Valley Cycling Seminar on Wednesday, May 7.

The seminar will take place at the Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates building located at 627 25 1/2 Road at 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the college’s cycling club.
Subjects to be discussed include bicycle maintenance, performance nutrition, mountain bike skills and injury prevention.

“We are looking forward to hosting the event and invite anyone who is interested in supporting the Mesa State Cycling Club to attend,” said Dale Reigle, CEO of Rocky Mountain Orthopeadic Associates. “Many of our doctors are avid cyclists themselves and treat bike enthusiasts of all ages. Sponsoring the event aligns with our goal to support sports-injury prevention education.”

“Our objective is to educate bicycle riders of all ages and abilities to learn as much as they can about the sport,” said sports medicine physician Dr. Mike Reeder of Rocky Mountain Orthopaedic Associates. “We also want to demonstrate our support of Mesa State’s Cycling Team.”

The Mesa State Cycling Club has been active at Mesa State College since 1998. The club has grown from the initial four members to over 80, consistently placing at the top of national collegiate racing, and is actively involved in promoting cycling in the community.

The Mesa State Cycling Team was the national Division I champion in 2000 and Division II champion in 2003. “We are proud of our success, but we are still a club sport at Mesa State College,” explained Steven Slaughter, event coordinator and assistant coach to the team. “We rely on donations and fundraising to keep the team alive.”

The seminar will begin with introductions from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department, Dr. Reeder and Slaughter. “We plan to briefly discuss safety issues and the different bike laws in the Valley,” said Slaughter. “After the introduction, we’ll break into sessions where attendees can learn more about their topics of interest.”

Discussions will be led by area experts and will include opportunities to enter a drawing for prizes and purchase items to benefit the Mesa State Cycling Club.
Refreshments will be donated by cycling enthusiasts and Mesa State Cycling supporters Ken Christoff and Todd Brock. DT Swiss and Tim Sewell, CFP are also sponsoring the event.
