GRAND JUNCTION — The first quarter campaign finance reports for 2008 are in for state candidates. The numbers reveal how much money the campaigns of three local state representative candidates have pulled in since January 1.

The campaign committee of Democrat state Rep. Bernie Buescher of Grand Junction has more money than his Republican opponent for District 55, Laura Bradford of Collbran. Buescher’s campaign has $41,733.67, about four times the amount Bradford has in her coffers, $11,352.16.

The Committee to Elect Laura Bradford became active Oct. 8, 2007. The Committee to Elect Bernie Buescher was created March 11, 2004.

Republican state Rep. Steve King, who is running unopposed, said he isn’t going to actively campaign until this summer. His Friends of Steve King campaign committee has $6,921.22, only about $90 more than he had at the end of 2007.

State candidates, state issue committee and state candidate committees announce how much money they have each quarter. The numbers appear on the Colorado Secretary of State’s Web site in the campaign finance section.

Mesa County commissioner-hopefuls Jim Doody (Grand Junction Republican petitioning for District 1 commissioner), Dave Kearsley (Mesa Republican petitioning for District 3 commissioner), Dickie Lewis (Grand Junction Democrat running for District 3 commissioner) and Dan Robinson (Grand Junction Democrat running for District 1 commissioner) don’t have to reveal how much money they’ve taken in so far until July 22.

Currently, their committee reports for the nonincumbent commissioner candidates read zero in the funds on hand category on the Secretary of State’s Web site.

Republican District 3 incumbent Janet Rowland’s campaign had $3,778 in her campaign as of Oct. 27, 2007. Incumbent District 1 incumbent Craig Meis’ campaign had $4,012.
