Rosalia S. Martinez of Grand Junction died Thursday, April 17. She was 85.
Rosalia was born Jan. 27, 1923, to Sefrido and Adelena Silva in Salida. She spent her childhood in Durango. Maria married Jose E. Martinez. He died Aug. 28, 1993.
During her lifetime, Rosalia lived in Durango and Pagosa Springs and spent the last 30 years in Grand Junction. She enjoyed cooking for her grandkids, sewing and working crossword puzzles. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include sons Urban Martinez of Grand Junction and Steve Martinez of Utah; daughters Lorraine Martinez, Rosina Trujillo and Mary Martinez, all of Grand Junction, and Esther Herrera of New Mexico; sisters Carmen Martinez of California and Naomi Holland of Ignacio, Colo.; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Her parents, husband and three sons, Richard, Tommy and Benny Martinez, preceded her in death.
A visitation was held on Monday, April 21, in the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary Chapel. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
