Thanks to the efforts of the Mesa State College Sociology Club, Lexi Russell, Deanne Goff and Samantha Loy will have gorgeous dresses to wear to their high school proms this year.
The three girls were among the first to arrive at the college Saturday to peruse the 125 dresses collected by the MSC club.
The club decided to collect dresses and give them away to help girls who may not have enough money to buy an expensive dress.
The dress giveaway continues tonight, from 6-8 p.m. in the Elam Room inside the MSC student center.
The club also got coupons donated by the Men’s Wearhouse, Cuttin’ Up hair salon and Comet Cleaners to help defray prom costs.
Loy said she typically borrows dresses for formal occasions at Central, where she’s a senior this year.
She looks forward to this year’s prom.
“I won’t miss it,” Loy said.
The women of the MSC club said they didn’t yet know what they will do with the leftover dresses.
They might send them to another organization to recycle in a similar manner.
