The only complaint about Mesa State College’s softball field was the weather delays that constantly forced the opening of the $1.2 million dollar facility back a couple of weeks.
“After 14 years of playing on our small, very cute field, this new field is awesome and amazing,” head softball coach Kris Mort said as part of the stadium’s opening ceremony.
Earlier weather delays due to frost on the field, Mesa State Athletic Director Jamie Hamilton said, forced the ribbon cutting back form earlier in the team’s current season to Tuesday’s doubleheader against Fort Lewis College.
Construction of the new field, part of the Saunders Fieldhouse project, began last June.
As part of the opening ceremonies a number of the college’s trustees along with Mesa State President Tim Foster and Mesa County Commissioner Craig Meis attended.
